Let’s be honest: when do these kids really go to school?
Between spring break, summertime, holidays, teacher work days, and administrative leave, these kids have more vacation days than those of us with unlimited PTO (paid time off).
The trickiest part is when they have extracurricular activities outside of school and need you to be their chauffeur. Here are a few ideas …
1. Sync calendars – More than ever, kids have packed schedules as much as adults. Review the school and activity calendar for the year and sync it with your work calendar. Where are the gaps, and what are the best days to commit to time off?
2. Plan easy travel—If possible, drop the kids off at Gigi’s house and be on your way. Several travel options provide packages, so you don’t have to be a travel agent to plan, like all-inclusive resorts, cruises, and local B&B escapes. And if you’re trying to take a break from all kids, try an adults-only resort.
Tip: For easy access and change of scenery, go places where you don’t need a passport or documentation. If you live on the East Coast, go to the West Coast, and vice versa. Puerto Rico and Hawaii are wonderful options as well.
With local escapes, you can indulge in relaxing activities like sailing tours or food adventures.
3. Take them with you – Find resorts or cruises with kids’ clubs and activities. Depending on their age, you don’t have to see them until dinner. Kids can stay at the club all day, and with so many things to do, they’ll start to wonder why you’re on their vacation.
Tip: If you’re trying to avoid heavy tourist areas during holidays, go in the opposite direction. During spring break, go north instead of south. In the winter, go to a destination where it’s their off-season. If it’s a major city, find the off-beaten paths.?

The best way to take longer trips is to plan months in advance around the kids’ time off. Plan simple trips to avoid feeling overwhelmed by the planning process, especially when time is limited.
POV: It looks like an adults-only, all-inclusive resort in Puerto Rico might be in your future ?.
Don’t let school schedules hold you back from your dream trip!
You don’t have to have an elaborate plan in place to travel. The main thing is that you go (with or without the kids)!
